Frequently Asked Questions
What device will students be using?
For 2014-2015 school year, Kindergarten students will use iPads for their learning device. Grades 1-6 will be using Chromebooks as their 1:1 device.
When will the students receive the device?
The roll out of devices will begin at the beginning of October. The decision was made to wait until after the first month of school in order to give teachers time to establish classroom routines and build community prior to integrating a new device.
Will students take their devices home with them?
It has not been determined whether or not students will take devices home with them. This decision will be reevaluated as the 1:1 initiative goes on.
How will the district establish device procedures with students?
All 1:1 teachers will participate in a technology training based on the CHAMPS Positive Classroom Management model. This training will begin at the end of September and will continue through the first week of November. Teachers will learn how to positively manage a classroom with 1:1 devices by focusing on what student conversation, help, movement, and participation looks like during various technology based activities.
In addition to this training, instructional technology supports have created three lessons that all teachers use when they first introduce the device. These lessons can be taught by individual teachers or with support of the instructional technology team.
These two activities combined will set up routines and procedures that are consistent across the district and will set a foundation for success.
What are the school’s disciplinary consequences for inappropriate use?
The school's disciplinary procedures are congruent with existing building handbooks and board policies. Students will still need tech available to continue their learning/work.
How will the district ensure the safety of students while using an internet connected device?
The district will filter all Internet content that is available to students. In addition, students will participate in digital safety lessons and discussions and will be encouraged to use student friendly search engines such as Kidrex.org.
How the effectiveness of the 1:1 initiative be measured?
Teachers will complete a technology integration survey that is based off of the SAMR model. This survey will be administered at the beginning and end of the year and a gap analysis will be used to determine growth.
